Terengganu possess padang synthetic spherical the first
TERENGGANU become the first state to have a football field of synthetic or artificial pasture worth RM1.1juta that have been completed in Jiring Tok village, near here.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the size of the area of the field to meet the minimum standards of the International Football Federation (FIFA) to match international standards.
"This is the initial stage of the project. If successful, we hope that all schools and public courses in the country can be replaced with a synthetic pitch in stages," he told reporters after visiting the synthetic pitch in Kuala Terengganu today.
In the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP), the government had allocated RM50 million to build two synthetic soccer field in each state with each cost between RM1.1 and RM1.7 million.
He added that, although the synthetic field construction costs more expensive than ordinary pasture around RM500, 000 each, but it is durable up to 10 years and can reduce maintenance costs.
Project in Tok Jiring in Kuala Nerus Parliament is the first in which several such courses are now built throughout the country which will see a new model for the development of national football.
